Built by Pollen Robotics, Microduck stands 25 cm tall and weighs under 800 g. Its 15 motors let it walk, sit, pick things up, recover from falls and even roller skate. Its movements come from reinforcement learning policies trained in MuJoCo and deployed through ONNX.
Microduck runs on an RK3566. It has enough compute for the 50 Hz control loop, but there is limited room for richer onboard AI or several perception models running together.
This is where RDK X5 gets interesting. Its 10 TOPS BPU gives developers more room to run AI perception alongside locomotion, including object tracking, gesture recognition, voice interaction, obstacle perception, and multi-camera vision.
We would love to see the community build an RDK X5 powered duck. You could port or retrain the locomotion policies, adapt some cheap and smart servos such as the Feetech STS3032, print a custom body, or add new perception-based behaviors.
Microduck's software and RL training tools are open source. https://github.com/p...cs/microduckIts https://github.com/p...uck_rlhardware. CAD and BOM are not public, so a full recreation will require some original hardware work. Open Duck Mini https://github.com/a...en_Duck_Minimay provide useful references for printable parts and mechanical design.
A complete robot would be great, though smaller contributions matter too. A working servo driver, an ONNX policy, a printable joint or a record of a failed sim to real test can all help the next developer.
Share your progress with the community and show us what your duck can do.
Who will build the first RDK X5 powered Microduck?
Just start by following this forum: https://forum-en.d-r...with-rdk-x5/516

Hello fellas, @everyone
On September 18, Toronto Metropolitan University Robotics Council will host a seminar exploring this question through a real-world robotics integration demo.
We're excited to have the D-Robotics RDK S100 serve as the development platform alongside an AgileX robotic arm in a live demo, showcasing how onboard computing and robotic hardware can work together to enable responsive manipulation.
The system is also being prepared for Hack the North, where D-Robotics is a partner.

Big news from the North! D-Robotics is heading to Hack the North 2026 ![]()
![]()
We're proud to be a partner of Hack the North 2026, Canada's largest hackathon - and this marks D-Robotics' first-ever overseas hackathon sponsorship.
We'll be in Waterloo, September 18-20, bringing:
RDK kits and hardware
Live demos
D-Robotics swag
And plenty of opportunities to explore what's possible with embodied AI and robotics
We're excited to meet the builders, hackers, and creators at Hack the North and see the wild, brilliant, and wonderful projects developers come up with.

Summer is past, winter on the way; So it's time to announce the **RDK Challenge 2026 Winter**!
![]()
Registration is **OPEN NOW**
Two quick notes, depending on who you are ![]()
Returning builders (2026 Summer alumni)
Welcome back. You already have the toolchain and the muscle memory. Point your previous project at this season's task guide and you are a week ahead of the field. Iterate the robot you shipped in Summer, or go bigger - both count. Grab your alumni role below if you haven't yet.
First-timers
Some technical background helps - and that's what the community is for. Got a robot dream? Bring it. Free bootcamp, regular meetups, webinars and community mentors @Shockley , @RustedFriend (Isaac), @Richard_muhi and @Robostadion Kazuki Murata have you covered, and finishing all three stages earns a full board rebate. Dream big - we'll help you build it.
For everything you need - rules, task guide, registration, check this repo:

We're launching D-Robotics Frontier, a technical series where we share our latest work and engineering progress across Embodied AI, world models, robot learning, and intelligent robotics.
The goal is to open up the technical work behind what we're building and create a space for deeper discussion with the robotics community.
**For our first session,** we'll take a deep dive into **Uranus**, **our data-driven robot simulation platform built around an interactive world model.**
Real-robot validation is costly and difficult to reproduce, while traditional physics-based simulation often requires substantial modeling effort and still faces the sim-to-real gap. Uranus explores a different approach: using a joint-trajectory-conditioned autoregressive diffusion world model to generate future multi-view observations from real robot data.
In the talk, we'll cover the full system, including:
- 3,300+ hours of real robot data curation and calibration recovery
- Causal training and distillation of a 1.3B-parameter world model
- Serving infrastructure reaching 24 FPS
- Long-horizon consistency and closed-loop policy evaluation
- Cross-embodiment generalization across multiple robot platforms
- Where the approach still breaks and what we've learned from those limitations
**We'll also share the code, model weights, and data as open source.**
If you're working on robot simulation, robot learning, world models, or embodied AI, we'd be glad to have you join the discussion.
