Is that a brushless hub motor? Looks pretty powerful - the wheel and fender setup is really coming together.

Yep, I've hoarded a "few" (close to 100, this is one of four bins) from hoverboards that were getting thrown away. I figured they'd come in handy for various robotics projects.

Wow, that many hoverboard motors could make a seriously fun little go-kart, probably scary fast too

Roughly 30 seconds before this I had all the torque and velocity limits disabled because I was trying to figure out why it couldn't climb over an extension cord. And it violently spun and crashed into things until it unplugged the joystick. Haha.

Haha, that's a wild test :laugh_squint: Glad it survived! Maybe it needs an emergency stop relay.

There is an estop button on it. and I plan on having a soft e stop as well. Now that my motor drivers are working, there's a reason to have one :P

I'm glad you guys extended the deadline because I just got my custom spherical lidar working tonight. Autonomy should be in the very near future.

I plan on having it host a simple website so that as long you're on the same wifi you can hit a site that will have a basic ui displaying the various sensors and ros topics that are being published.

Well, I didn't make as much progress as I hoped before the competition deadline. But it's finally driving. I think the motor drivers could probably be tuned more, but it can turn. So now I need to get my x5 to actually interpret data from the sensors and use that to move around.

Right now I'm teleoperating it from a steam deck, and made a script that lets me tweak motor driver settings on the fly and push them to the boards once I see if they're an improvement.

Got yolo working with driving and lidar and it's finally doing most of the things I wanted for a minimum run.

This has such a late-90s/early-2000s vibe.
