The DYI servo motor video (above) was really well put together. But, I noticed that there was no discussion or demonstration of torque. What amount of torque do you think his servo would be capable of?

I guess the torque is very high. If you compare the size of this motor to the motor of a servo.

Very Nice! I see you have had some experience with these Brushed-DC Servos. Now, it is even more interesting to me, as I can see the 'source' design used for the DYI version that "How to Mechatronic" had built. In both cases, the DC motor has a gearbox attached, in addition to the servo construction (and potential gear reduction).
I have thought about how one could recycle old printer DC motors to make Servos, but in all cases, a gearbox is needed to increase the torque. 3D printed gearboxes are possible, i have both seen and made them. but for robotics, they have serious challenges.

I wonder if today DC motors are giving way to brushless motors and without gearbox.
That is what I am trying to do in this topic, https://www.robot-ma...board/?p=115651

Bonne Année! Happy 2024, All!
The Robot Report has an article on 5 Trends in Robotics for 2024.
5 robotics trends to expect in 2024
I would agree with the projections, especially in seeing an expansion in Mobile Robot Use Cases. I am hoping we start to see more robots in every day use.
One question though, at the end of the article, they suggest that Rust will become the language of choice (or at least more wide spread) in robot software. What do you think? Is anyone using Rust, or Rust with ROS?

I can't answer your question, but I wish you a happy new year 2024.

At work (small robotics company), we are using ROS2, but nobody is using Rust, and I haven't heard of anyone planning/wanting to learn it or to start using it
Aidez-nous à vous aider : partagez toutes les informations pertinentes : description précise du problème, contexte, schéma de câblage, liens vers la documentation des composants, votre code (ou encore mieux un code minimal reproduisant le bug), ...

Here are some robots from CES2024 in Las Vegas, the big giant consumer electronics show.
Robots are dominating at CES 2024 — these are the 9 best so far
There is a strong trend toward home companion robots with built in chatty AI interfaces.
It might be a little disturbing that some of the demos are lacking prototypes or prices.
To me, it seems like "Ballie" will end up getting kicked very often!!

La société UBTECH a sorti une série grand public de robots modulaires, UGOT. Ces robots sont très performants et programmables en Scratch.
Il n'est pas impossible qu'à l'avenir cela remette en cause notre activité.

Hi All,
if you have been following some of the latest developments in Robotics, you may have seen some discussion about adding AI to robotics. It has been recently announced that the Open Source company Hugging Face is expanding into this growing field. To that effect, they have a job application for a "Embodied Robotics Engineer" located on-site: Paris, Île-de-France, France.
At Hugging Face, we believe ML doesn’t have to be constrained to computers and servers, and that’s why we’re expanding our team with a new opportunity for a Robotics Engineer focusing on Machine Learning/AI.
I really like two three of their Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain open-source and low cost robotic systems integrating deep learning and embodied AI technologies
- Build low cost robots with off the shelf electronic components and controllers and 3D printed parts
- Contribute to open-source projects related to robotics and AI
Wow, "Low cost robots with off-the-shelf electronic components and controllers and 3D printed parts" --- I think they are talking about ALL of us!
@Oracid, ready to come out of retirement!?

Voici un petit . . . . . .
