Single cell is fine for me, all my minusbots are running the servos and motors just fine on 3.0-4.2 volts. 5volts even cause oscillations on the camera tilt and gripper Y.

Well, it's very strange that your robot can operate at 4.2 volts, because a Raspberry Pi requires 5 volts for stable operation. But it's actually a good thing that your robot has low power consumption.

There is a step up on the ups board, providing 5V from 4V battery.

My bad! I thought you were running the Pi directly on the battery voltage too. Since the board handles the 5V boost for the CPU, your setup is totally fine.

I can't tell if the fuel gauge is compatible with Vigibot. It looks like you'll have to read it from their non standard i2c chip.

Yeah, I suspect I'll have to edit clientrobotpi again, just like I did in case of the wittypi. At least now I'll have some idea what I'm doing :D

10volts, ~3300uF capacitor. Tested it for about 15 minutes, and I didn't see any low voltage warnings on the framebuffer

The robot won't turn on while it's charging. The blue leds turn off for a second, but nothing happens. I have to disconnect the cable to be able to turn it on. Tried with 2 different chargers, both microusb and magnetic connectors.

Hm no not really.

I think it turns on automatically but puts 5V on the OTG micro usb out. Long press switches between OTG out and 5V pi pin header, so should be ok.

What does short press do? In both modes (pi on & off)

@Garfield2142 Could it be inrush current triggering an over current protection?

I don't know, but I'll temporarily disconnect the capacitor that I soldered in to test if it does that without it too.

It turns on perfectly fine while charging if I disconnect the capacitor. Maybe it's too high capacity?
